Today is Chelsea’s birthday so this post is for her (Happy Birthday Chelsea)! Flavia made dinner for about twelve of us at Chelsea’s house. While we waited for the food to be ready, we snacked on these bacon-wrapped figs with Gorgonzola and walnuts. They had a distinct maple flavor that also made them a little caramelized. We quickly devoured them while all agreeing that pretty much all food is better with bacon.

This was a black rice salad with just some feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, cilantro, and olive oil. I had never tried black rice before, and this was definitely my favorite dish at the dinner!

The main course was oven roasted pork loin, which I also do not eat often; it almost reminded me of chicken, but with more flavor.

Our salad was fennel and orange… once again, I had never eaten fennel before. Later I looked it up, and it is apparently very popular in Italy, which makes sense since Flavia is Italian. It is extremely similar in taste to licorice. Overall it was a fantastic dinner! Another friend brought a flour-less chocolate cake, but I didn’t manage to get a picture before we all dug in.
